WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTION

BY REDLINE PERFORMING ARTS AND ACTORS THEATRE OF LOUISVILLE

Alberta O. Jones was a trailblazer: as the first Black woman to pass the bar in Kentucky, the attorney who negotiated Muhammad Ali's first boxing contract, and Louisville’s first woman prosecutor, she juggled a pioneering legal career advocating for the vulnerable alongside a fierce dedication to civil rights activism. When her body was found in the Ohio River in 1965, a brilliant young voice for justice was silenced—but her legacy lives on. This gripping world-premiere drama by local playwright Larry Muhammad shines a light on a remarkable life cut short by an unsolved murder that still haunts this city, telling the story of a brave, barrier-breaking Louisvillian.

Opening at the new public park named in Jones’s memory, this production’s first performance was held on Alberta O. Jones Park Day (July 13), established by the Mayor’s Office as an annual celebration for this beautiful greenspace in the California neighborhood.
